BRIEF HISTORY OF WELCOME WAGGON OF AUSTRALIA
NEWCOMERS CLUB INC. (BRISBANE, QLD)
The Newcomers Club was established in 1966 and meets monthly. It is the social arm of Welcome Waggon of Australia’s greeting service to new residents. The Club boasts a friendly membership and an excellent committee who voluntarily give their time to organise outings, visits to places of interest and guest speakers at its monthly lunches.
Since its inauguration the Club has been honoured to have the Lord Mayor of Brisbane as its Patron.
The Club currently meets at the historic Tattersall’s Club located in the Tattersall’s Arcade, Queen Street Mall, Brisbane. Guest speakers covering current topics of interest are a feature each month together with regular theatre outings. A current newsletter can be e-mailed. A yearly subscription covers postage, printing costs etc. It is a Social Club that provides support to other newcomers.
Our mission statement is ‘to foster friendships amongst newcomers’. Newcomers Club is non-profit, apolitical and non-secretarian. It is not only for overseas arrivals as it also caters for country to city, interstate and intra-city movers.
